Characteristics and Aspects

Nephthys is the Goddess of death, service, lamentation, nighttime and rivers. She was also known as the protectress of the Sacred Phoenix.

Appearance

Nephthys was often was depicted as a kite, or as a woman with falcon wings, usually outstretched as a symbol of protection. Her children have avian features, most commonly wings.

Relations

Nephthys was the daughter of Nut and Geb. Nephthys was typically paired with her sister Isis in funerary rites. She is also the sister-wife of Set.

Ancient History

Nephthys was the goddess of the “Mansion of the Sistrum” in Hwt-Sekhem. Nephthys was most widely and usually worshiped in ancient Egypt as part of a consortium of temple deities. Therefore, it should not surprise us that her cult images could likely be found as part of the divine entourage in temples at Kharga, Kellis, Deir el-Hagar, Koptos, Dendera, Philae, Sebennytos, Busiris, Shenhur, El Qa’la, Letopolis, Heliopolis, Abydos, Thebes, Dakleh Oasis, and indeed throughout Egypt.

Modern History

While the children of Nephthys were numerous and spread widely across the country, the hunters slaughtered hundreds during the rebellion. Those that survived fled and spread across the world. Most major cities near or along rivers are bound to have some of Nephthys’ children.

Abilities

Nephthys’ children are not more physically capable then humans. They do however have access to death, sorrow (Emotion), night (Darkness), protection, and water magic. They also have access to enough cloaking magic to fulfill their obligations in the Oath of the Veil.

In each generation their is one guardian of the sacred phoenix who has access to greater powers including fire, air, and healing magic. However no one knows how one becomes the guardian or why outside the children of Nephthys.

Personality

Ritual and worship are still important aspects to the life of the children of Nephthys, though the means of achieving these often very from one child to another. They also prefer living near rivers and tend to be ‘night owls’.
